Their wardrobe does not wear

New YORK designer Joseph Altuzarra has created a dress collection exclusively for Matchesfashion, with one for each of his favourite girls. The five-dress offering draws on his signature shirt dress – a favourite of the Matchesfashion customer, buying director Natalie Kingham told us – adapting The classic look in different fabrics to suit the style of some of his favorite women.

Photographed on environmentalist and jewellery designer Sheherazade Goldsmith; magazine editor and street-style star Caroline Issa; novelist Zadie Smith; fashion editor Liz Uy; and creative consultant Giorgia Tordini, the collection is shown styled by each of the inspirational women to reflect their own personal Style.

“We wanted to bring our shirtdress to life on strong international women who, like my brand, have that mix of seductiveness and pragmatism and ease,” Altuzarra explained. “With Zadie, Caroline, Giorgia, Liz and Sheherazade, they all have a strength And independence combined with a sophisticated approach and mindset to dressing that I find very alluring. Their wardrobe does not wear them; it is the other way around. Many of the names in Altuzarra collections come from culture and history, from literature or cultural References I found inspiration in, or from women who have inspired me. For instance, I chose the name ‘Lela’ for the shirtdress for the black and gold lurex stripe dress because the name means ‘born at night’. And so I feel very Honored that Zadie, choose this dress as she is a modern literary icon.

“I do not really like to look feminine, in the sense of girly,” Smith added. “I do not have much interest in that. So I like to look like a grown up robe de soirée bustier pas cher, and someone who you are never scared to Talk to. Joseph said he was thinking about his mother when he designed the shirtdresses, and of women of my age who still want to look impressive and put together. I thought it was really beautiful and I like that idea. I like the gold, Silver and black – to me, it’s a bit of a Studio 54 dress. I would have liked to have been there, just for a night. ”

Uniting its physical and digital platforms robes de soirée discount, Matchesfashion is also launching a digital trunk show concept – debuting with Altuzarra. In a similar way to an actual trunk show, the designer will appear in an online film discussing the collection, during which customers can click on the Customers who are showing to add their to their basket. Customers can engage directly with Altuzarra himself on social media during the film, ahead of similar virtual trunk shows in the series featuring Emilia Wickstead and JW Anderson.
